Mounting an M-2 "Ma-deuce" Browning 12.7mm caliber machine gun on a jeep doesn't transform the jeep into a fighting vehicle by any means. What it does is provide efficient transport for a heavy machine gun that is usually utilized in defensive positions, thereby enabling it to be used in support of infantry assaults and for suppressing small arms fire (including anti-tank grenades) and smaller anti-tank guns that could threaten the flanks of an armored column.
